Sunny Fellow at the Pond

That would be my yellow bog iris. When we moved here 2 years ago in March, I threw a small clump of these yellow bog iris tubers into the small inlet side of our pond. That small clump has tripled in size and I am hoping that they will one day fill the end of the pond. These iris also do well in regular soil and I am thinking about putting on my hip waders (yes I own hip waders but we will save that story for another day) and getting me a clump to plant up here at the house. The blooms remind me of Nubian goats with their floppy ears.

Here's the whole clump. Notice how muddy the pond is. We've had a lot of rain and run off over the last 2 days.

And a couple more shots that you might enjoy.

Those are so pretty - they grow up here as well, but I didn't realze they would prosper in drier soil conditions than a bog. Maybe I will give them a try! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and for your nice comment - hope to see you again!

Same here Donalyn. Feel free to stop by any time. I think those iris actually multiply and spread faster in dirt than they do in bog soil. I had huge spots of them all over the place at our last house. I knew one clump was all I needed to bring with me because they spread so fast!

Those are absolutely lovely... May have to plant some here in Virginia... I'm sure they would do well here also.

Lovin' your blog!

Thanks Di! I had the purple colored bog iris too, but they didn't come back after the first winter. I have found that they are not as hardy as the yellow ones. If this rain doesn't stop, all I am going to be able to grow are bog plants!

Hi almost Dunn! Thank you for the compliment. I have a Canon Powershot S5 IS. I am hoping to upgrade to a DSLR for my birthday in June, but I'm having fun learning with this one. It's the top-end point and shoot "DSLR wanna-be" by Canon. If you have any questions about it, just ask!
