Who Is This Visitor?

Now I consider myself pretty bird savvy. I have a bird book with numerous little tabs and scribbles inside with most of the pages marked off as "seen" but this little guy has me stumped.

I haven't gone all the way through my bird book yet but the I know I haven't seen him around here before. The blue throat is a new one on me. I knew someone had been visiting my new suet feeder that I got at the Amish Woodworking shop for Mother's day and today I caught the little nibbler.

Anyone know who my little visitor is? Could it be a female indigo bunting? I don't think they have the blue throat. I'm off to search the internet and my little bird book until I find out or someone tells me who this is.
First person to correctly identify this little fellow wins one of my cookbooks!

Is this a female Eastern Bluebird?

Hi Farm Girl, I have several pairs of Eastern Bluebirds in my nesting boxes and I don't think that's what this is. I have also looked up the juvenile ones and they are both (female and juvenile) a lot more blue and have the orangish-brown on their chests and bellies. This bird also has the black upper beak with the white lower beak where the bluebirds beak is all black. Anyone else??

I think you are right it is an Indigo bunting. It is either a juvenile male or a male that hasn't turned yet. The males are only blue during mating season.

Hi Linda! I am awarding you the cookbook prize. After much research and some help from my friend Oakie, I have decided that this is a female Indigo Bunting. The males are in all their blue splendor here at the moment so it has to be a female. I don't know why it's posting as anonymous. Make sure you are signed into your Google account before posting, then you should be able to choose to post as your Google account name (or other account if that you are signed in with). Please email me at mycountryblogofthisandthat@gmail.com with your address and I will send you your cookbook!

Congratulations!
