Building a Greenhouse

Girls can build stuff too!
My clotheslines turned out great so I thought I'd go a step bigger. I have always wanted a greenhouse so I decided to build one. I already had my spot picked out. It's an 8 x 8 pad that a building used to sit on. The building is now in the field for the donkey or goats or geese, whatever needs it. But the pad is mine! I had a picnic table on it for awhile but I think a greenhouse would be much better here.

I hopped in the truck and went to True Value. I spent approximately $100 for 29 - 2 x 4's.

Grabbed the saw horses, a hammer, some power tools, tape measure, nails and screws that I already had in the building and started working. I occasionally had to stop to give Luke a push on the tire swing but swinging aside I managed to get this much done before my husband came home from work and I said SURPRISE!

I have a big roll of plastic just waiting to be added but I have to wait until my next day off which is Friday! I don't know if I can wait that long. I am so excited!

That is great! You did a fantastic job. I too will have a greenhouse one of these days. It's on the "honey do" list.

You rock girl! What a great job you have done.
I hope you post the rest of your work on the greenhouse. What will you do for a door and ventilation?

Whaaaattt?! That's awesome!
Did you just come up with that or did you have a plan/blueprint? If you say you just made that up as you went along I'm gonna die! It's fab!

I am sure if I had done that, it would not have turned out nearly so straight. But go you! I can't wait to see you finish it. :)

I knew you could do it. My sister built herself a goat barn with the help of another sister or two. Women CAN build.Don't forget the tie downs. Ky. weather can get rough at times.

The blueprint was in my head but I have to say I made some of it up as I went along! I also built my chicken coop last year so I had some "experience". I bought 4 ml plastic from Lowe's and I will probably attach it with my staple gun. Have to see how that works. I have read that the plastic from Lowe's doesn't hold up as well as actual greenhouse plastic you can order online so I may have to use it next year. I have the 2-ft pieces of 2 x 4 left from where I cut the 8 feet ones down to 6 for the sides and I plan on using those to make some fold out windows. I have a small heater that I picked up at a yard sale a couple of years ago that will be the perfect size when I need some heat. It's close enough to my building to have electric and water nearby. I'll will definitely post how I did it and the finished project. I hope it doesn't rain Friday!! I should be able to get it finished then.

Awesome! You are quite the framer! I hope you bought the greenhouse grade plastic! We bought the hardware store plastic last year and It didn't last the season before turning brittle.

You are my hero. I have always wanted to try something like that but didn't dare. Perhaps I shall become braver.

Nice! It seems like it'll turn out to be a great green house. You can find a bunch of greenhouse supplies online. Thought you might be interested as you finish up your greenhouse. It looks amazing!

How did the greenhouse look when you were finished ? I bet that cement floor is great for keeping the temperature stable overnight, I made my own with a wood floor, so the temp. drops very quickly when the sun goes down.

I also like your site, and think it has a great deal in common with my own. I'm adding a link to your site as I type =)
