Growing Garden

Remember back awhile ago when I was planting onions and potatoes? The garden is doing well.
Photobucket
I have sunflowers, potatoes, onions, broccoli, peppers and more peppers, tomatoes, squash, zucchini, corn, beans, cucumbers and radishes. I've been working on pulling weeds daily but as you can see, I still have plenty. I don't want to till right now because with less rainfall it dries out the soil.

Photobucket
I love peppers! I planted lots of cayenne, jalapenos, bells and banana peppers this year.

Photobucket
I have LOTS of tomato plants. I started most of these guys from seeds. There are little green tomatoes everywhere but no ripe ones yet.

Photobucket
I somehow managed to grab a pack of broccoli instead of cabbage so we're growing broccoli for the first time this year.

Photobucket
I got my first "mess" (Kentucky word for you) of squash yesterday! We're having fried chicken, creamed squash and biscuits for supper. YUM!

Photobucket
The corn is tall and beautiful this year.

Photobucket
and the beans have blooms and tiny little beans all over them!

As I typed this, we got a much needed rainfall. The temps have been in the high 90's this week and things were looking a little wilted at midday.
Thanks for touring the garden with me...what?? You're leaving?? Get back here and pull some weeds!! I'll feed you fried chicken and squash!!! I even have iced tea made!

Jennifer, I planted the potatoes and onions on April 2. Everything else got planted around the 25th of April. Not exactly sure of the date but I go by the Ramon's Brownie Calendar for best planting dates.

Your garden is wonderful. I just got mine planted the end of May/first week of June. Too far north to plant any sooner. I can't wait until mine looks like yours. There's nothing better than eating from the garden.

You have got a nice garden out there. I think a connection with plants means a connection with the nature itself. Iflorist.co.uk

For some reason, I can't see your pictures, but I have so many weeds that I can't touch because of all the mud.

Your garden is just beautful. My garden is very prolific this year as well. More squash than I know what to do with! Zukes and Crooknecks. Any good recipes??? I hope to do a post on mine soon.

dibear, our favorite way to eat squash is what I call creamed squash, the boys call them mashed squash. I just boil the squash until they are soft, mash them with my potato masher and put them in a skillet. Add some milk, salt, pepper and a big spoon full of butter. Cook this until the milk/butter are cooked down to mashed potato consistency. (This is a lot like making mashed potatoes, just a little extra cooking). We eat these on biscuits...YUM! I can make a meal off just these. I'll see if I can find some more recipes I use. I do make zucchini patties that are good also.
