Deer season has been in full swing here in Kentucky. I don't want to offend any of my followers but I also want to share my life with you just the way it is and hunting is a part of my life. It's been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My husband hunts, my parents hunt, my brothers and sister hunt, uncles, aunts, cousins, even my grandmother hunts. She also fishes. She's the one in the bottom photo with the big catfish.
We eat what we kill and I have never hunted just for sport. My husband and I both put meat in the freezer during deer season, we use it up during the year and we're teaching our kids to hunt with the same ethical values ingrained in us. I have killed several deer including smaller bucks over the years but I killed my first big buck yesterday. I take what the Lord provides and he happened to provided me with a nice buck this time. Rick over at Whitetail Woods featured me on his blog today and I wanted to share the link. What I didn't want to do was plaster a photo of my deer on here and not give people the choice of looking or not looking at it. This is not a "hunting" blog and I realize that some people are offended by hunting photos and can happily go through their lives without having to look at those kinds of photos. I wanted to give you a choice (and send Rick some traffic while I'm at it.) No, it's not gory or anything but it is a photo of a dead deer. So with that said....for those of you who want to see, check it out.......

Beautiful buck! Hubby harvested a big buck and two does with his tag/bonus tag. I hope he can get the last one so he can tag out. I love having a freezer full.
That's a very nice way to letting folks avoid it if they feel the need. Glad that you put the meat to good use. I do not like venison or any wild game, but I know a lot of folks do (including many in my family). Safe hunting to you and yours.
Maybe it's just 'cause I'm a guy, but I wouldn't have worried about offending anyone. If they WERE offended, it would have been THEM out of touch with reality, not you. Still, I guess no one can accuse you of being insensitive to their feelings. Congratulations, BTW; I saw your buck earlier this evening on your cyber-buddy's blog!
I think that it is great! My guys hunt and I am thinking about trying it next yr.I am not to sure yet, but the gals on the hunting channels make it look easy and addicting. I go out with the guys now and our friends to get everything ready for hunting season.
We eat what the guys hunt(mostly deer in NC), but last week my hb traded a deer shoulder for flounder ,and another type of fish from a friends oceans outing(fishing trip).
Just a thought there.
Congratulations on your hunt.
Personally, I'm a vegetarian, but I also have no problems with people who hunt for meat. It's a much closer relationship and the way it should be. People who have no concept of their food coming from anywhere other than a grocery store is scary. Congrats on you big buck!

Nice buck. I am here in central KY and my son has already taken a good buck and a doe. We process the meat and utilize what is taken as well.
nice buck! My 16 year old neice got her a 8 point the other day.She was beside herself. They already took it off to make them some meat to put in the freezer and the head will be stuffed and mounted. wow all that does sound so gory huh? lol but they really do hunt for the meat and not the sport. My cousin has a business of it and he gives the meat to people who are less fortunate.
Congratulations!
Good for you Darla! My husband shot 2 doe and one buck last weekend and all is in the freezer. He's hunting with my son this morning and I made him promise no more deer for us this year. There's no more room!
I don't hunt and neither does my family but I do work in the Sporting Goods department at a local retailer and yesterday it was non-stop with youth license.today started youth gun season here in Ohio. Anyway I have no problems with hunting. I like venison just wish I could get some. Good job on the buck.
Great shot and hope you fill that freezer with even more.
Thank you so much for all the congrats! I've hunted a long time and this is the first wall-worthy one I have ever killed.
Gorges, I went back and forth and thought long and hard about whether to post the pic here. Things like that don't bother me at all. I do my own skinning and processing as well and enjoy it as a part of hunting but I also know that not everyone feels that way. Since Rick was nice enough to feature me, I thought I'd just do it this way and send some people over to visit him as a way of saying Thanks. Plus I still get to brag a bit!
I have told my husband that I need a meat grinder and jerky making kit from Cabela's as an early Christmas gift. We always put our meat in the freezer but I would love to make some jerky this year. He's more than willing to do that. He loves jerky!
I don't hunt, but Pop does. I do feel for all the Bambi's out there, loosing their mothers and fathers, but granted, they look better in the freezer, than they do in the grill of my niece's truck. The truck was a mess.It may be totaled. She hit the deer on the way to her job,Friday night. No doubt, they need to be thinned out.Nice Buck,KentuckyFarmGirl.
Awesome buck! Congrats! Let us know how the jerky process goes!!! Are you going to mount him?
Congratulations on your 1st buck!!!
I am so glad to hear of someone else skinning and processing their own deer. We do that as well! I got a beautiful 8 point this year and he is at the taxidermist as we speak. I have a bigger deer than my husband now!!! We have talked about getting a meat grinder next. I have a jerky kit and I have a few recipes to try. If you want them just email me, I am more than willing to share!
If you get a chance jump over and see my 8 point. I am so proud of him, which I am sure that you understand!

P.S. I found you from Rick's website!
Congratulations on both filling your tag/freezer and giving your readers the choice to look or not to look. Very thoughtful of you.
(On a side note, I did look and WOW! What a buck! Congrats again!)
Happy Thanksgiving!I'll try and get those questions to you after turkey day. Thanks.
Okay, thanks! Looking forward to it!
